Ukraine is one of the largest countries of Eastern Europe. Ukraine occupies an area of 603700 km2. Its territoty stretches for 893 km from north to south and for 1316 km from east to west. It has state borders with Russia, Belarus and Moldova. In the south it is washed by the Black and the Azov Seas.
The state symbols of Ukraine are the national flag and emblem.
An independence of Ukraine was proclaimed on the 24th of August, 1991.
Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine and one of the oldest cities in the Eastern Europe. That’s why it is not surprising that a lot of interesting monuments are situated there, for example, the well-known to all Slavonic world St. Sophia’s Cathedral and Kyivo- Pecherska Lavra.
