  2. Your task with SAW Pick any 10 words from page 1 and 2. Create a SAW entry for each word you pick in your journal/notebook. When done, place it back in your class bin. You have 20-30 min max !

  3. What will I be able to know and do after today’s lesson? I can explain how railroad expansion affected the United States economy. I can describe how the development of a nationwide network of railroads helped businesses.

  4. Video spotlight – activating prior knowledge As you watch this video clip, be ready to share with your elbow partner : How does this video help remind you of what you read about before class today? Chapter 19 section 1 – Railroads lead the way!

  5. Clock partners During the 2nd quarter we will work with flexible partners at different times. We will use this strategy of clock partners today. Please make 4 appointments with a partner of your choice for each appointment. If you like, you may be your own partner for one of the times if you want the opportunity to work by yourself.

  6. Page 8 in your packets With your 12 o clock partner please complete page 8. Refer to the textbook as needed. This worksheet helps support those students that like to see an outline of the information. You have 15 minutes.

  8. Your homework was to have read Chapter 19 section 1 • In your note books create an entry with today’s date. Make it look like this • What are some businesses that did well when the railroads did well with expansion?

  10. Page 6 in your packets Understanding essential questions. Section 1 – How did raildroad expansion affect the U.S. economy? Make this a statement, record your answer on your line on page 6. Now, in each box place an example. Group share when done. Move on to Reading Chapter 19 section 2 and complete section 2 on page 6.

  11. Closure How did railroad expansion change America? Record your answer in your notebooks.
