29 CFR Part 1918 Subpart J Personal Protection
1918.101(a)(1) – Eye and Face Protection • Employers must assure employees use appropriate protection whenever there are eye and/or face hazards. • Equipment must meet ANSI Z-87.1-1989.
1918.101(a)(2) – Eye and Face Protection • Employees wearing corrective eyeglasses, eye protection equipment must be worn over glasses. • Corrective eyewear can be used if safety lenses and/or equivalent protection.
1918.101(b) – Eye and Face Protection • Eye protection must be maintained in good condition.
1918.101(c) – Eye and Face Protection • Used eye protection must be cleaned and disinfected prior to being reissued.
Respiratory protection covered under §1910.134, Subpart I 1918.102 – Respiratory Protection
1918.103(a) – Head Protection • Protective helmet required where there is a potential for injury from falling objects.
1918.103(b) – Head Protection • Equipment must comply with ANSI Z-89.1-1986.
1918.103(c) – Head Protection • Previously worn protective hats must be cleaned and disinfected before being worn by other employees.
1918.104(a) – Foot Protection • Protective footwear is required when there is danger of foot injuries from: • Falling objects. • Rolling objects. • Objects that could pierce the sole.
1918.104(b) – Foot ProtectionEquipment must comply with ANSI Z-41-1991
1918.105(a) – Other Protective Measures • Protective clothing must be provided and worn by employees engaged in work requiring protective clothing.
1918.105(b)(1) – Other Protective Measures • Employees must wear personal flotation devices (PFDs) when engaged in work which might cause the employee to fall into the water.
1918.105(b)(1)&(2) – Other Protective Measures • PFDs must be USCG approved. • PFDs must be maintained in safe condition.
