  1. Objectives: • Develop knowledge of the essential concepts and skill sets of the Iowa Core Curriculum. • Begin to think about the implications of these essential concepts and skills sets for our work as a school system.

Practice Reviewing the Essential Concepts and Skill Sets • Spend 7 minutes silently reviewing the essential concepts and skill sets of Literacy. • Identify five key points you take away from your review. • Turn to a partner and share your five points. Your partner shares his/hers. • You and your partner combine with another twosome. Try to come to consensus on the five key points.

  5. Reviewing the Essential Concepts and Skill Sets Your Assignment • In groups of 4, decide who will review each of the areas: Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, or 21st Century Skills. • Using the Iowa Core Curriculum Website, complete the review on the area you’ve selected or have been assigned. • Share your findings with your small group. Complete your review form as you discuss with your group.
