  1. Cascade support for OER release A(iii) Heather Williamson, JISC

  2. Aims of the cascade strand • To share the expertise, practice and processes of teams already releasing OER sustainably with institutions or communities that are new to OER release, and the wider OER programme. • To increase the capacity of the higher/further education sector for sustainable OER release • In particular, this strand supports 11c in the main call document: • And paragraph 14: To encourage development and uptake of tools and processes supporting the release of open resources that will enhance both productivity and relevance by being customisable and adaptable by both academics and students The continuation of the cultural change process begun in the OER pilot programme http://www.flickr.com/photos/28122162@N04/3719229932

  3. Expected outcomes of the cascade strand: • An increase in the number of institutions/ organisations engaged in sustainable OER release • Increased overall sector "expertise" in OER release • Practices, models and processes from existing OER release projects made more widely available, via a range of activities (e.g. input into the UKOER InfoKit, active dissemination and deposit into JorumOpen) • A greater understanding of how models of release are effective in various settings

  4. Successful lead projects will be expected to: • Already have shareable processes in place supporting the release of OER in a sustainable manner • Have identified at least two partners not currently involved in OER release. These could be (but not limited to): - Higher/further education institutions - Professional bodies - Commercial training companies - Public sector organisations • Support the release of staff time to: • provide substantial advice and support to the project partners (lead) • work towards the release of OER and the promotion and use tracking of this material (partners) • Monitor the impact of their support and disseminate to the OER community their OER practices, models and processes

  5. Important notes • Funding is not limited to Phase 1 UKOER pilot project teams – it is open to any eligible institution or consortium • Funding under this strand cannot be used to support OER release within the lead partner • All materials released via the partners are expected to be deposited into JorumOpen • The assessment panel will not look favourably on any project proposal that appears to be a continuation of a project funded under the UKOER Programme Phase 1

  6. Eligibility (project lead) • Higher education institutions funded by HEFCE • Further Education institutions in England that teach HE to more than 400 full time equivalent students • Higher Education Academy Subject Centres (as consortium leaders)

  7.
