Cambridge Chimes Welcome and Announcements Greeting Each Other Ringing of the Bell
CENTERING SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 43:16-21
Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, who brings out chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: Do not remember the former things, or considerthe things of old.
I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild animals will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches; for I will give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to givedrink to mychosen people,
the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION L: Holy Source of New Life, you promise to set us free from paths of fear, doubt, and denial. P: But we resist your invitation, seeing only what we must give up if we are to follow the path of Jesus.
L: You call us to have faith in your sustaining presence and power, P: But we resist your call and place our trust in things we can control. L: We doubt that you can bring water to the dry places of our lives.
P: So we turn to other “gods” to find satisfaction. ALL: Forgive us when we turn away from your promise of abundant life, Holy One, and heal us and lead us home.
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Whenever we seek to leave behind our old ways and turn to God for help, God forgives our faithlessness and strengthens us for the journey ahead. We are the heirs of God’s promises.
We are the children of God’s compassion and mercy. P: Thank you God for your great and amazing grace and mercy. Amen.
PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: John 12:1-8
Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, the home of Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at the table with him. Mary took a pound of costly perfumemade of pure nard,
anointed Jesus’ feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was about to betray him), said, ‘Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii andthe money givento the poor?’
(He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.) Jesus said, ‘Leave her alone. She bought it so that she might keep it for the day of my burial.
You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.’ L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

*THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING L: Return your hearts to the Lord. P: We do return them up to the Lord! L: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. P: It is right to give Godthanks and praise.
L: With joy we praise you, gracious God, for you have created heaven and earth, made us in your image, and kept covenant with us—even when we fell into sin. When we turned away, sinned against you and our love failed, your love remained steadfast, pure and holy. Sooften you have delivered yourpeople from captivity.
You also made a covenant with us to be our sovereign God and spoke to us through your prophets. So with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: • P: Holy, holy, holy Lord,God of power and might, heaven and earth are fullof your glory.
Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. • L: In sending Jesus the Christ, the perfect one, you revealed to all how your love works, and once and for all conquered sin. Jesusobeyed you by preaching, teaching, restoring andredeeming.
He put total trust in you, trust even unto death. The pain and death he suffered for us secured our salvation. With the sacrifice we celebrate here, he rescued us from sin and death. For that we are deeply thankful. So, here in this holy time of celebration, here at the sacred feast prepared for us,we would speak of that mysterywe call faith:
P: We remember Christ’s sacrifice and death; we remember Christ’s resurrection; we remember Christ will come again in glory. • L: God of Mercy, let your Holy Spirit move in power and love overus and over these gifts ofbread and wine. By our sharingof them, may we experience thedeath and resurrection of Christ,
and may we be strengthened to overcome sin and be holy, even as you are holy.
The Lord’s Prayer (unison) Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come; thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
