This year, Zee Marathi has felicitated renowned versatile famous theatrepersonality Madhukar Toradmal and veteran persona from experimental theatre Arun Kakade and legendary editorof 'Sholey', 'Shaan', 'Seeta Aur Geeta' and 'Sagar' fame M. S. Shinde for the lifetime achievement award –Zee JeevanGaurav Puraskar. Other great achievers like Sulbha Deshpande, Dr. Mohan Agashe and Ramesh Deo took thehonors of offering these Awards respectively. A special Award named Marathi Paul Padate Pudhe, which is given for extravagant performance in Marathi as wellas Hindi Film industry was given this year to cinematographer Mahesh Limaye. He has demonstrated his excellencein many Bollywood films namely, 'Corporate', 'Traffic Signal', 'Fashion' and his latest big hit – 'Dabaang' and Marathi movies like 'Uttarayan', 'Evdhasa Abhaal' and 'Natarang'. Famous Producer, Director Madhur Bhandarkar felicitated this award to Mahesh Limaye.For this prestigious award, many well known faces from Marathi Industry marked their presence including Director N Chandra, Nivedita, Ashok Saraf, Bharat Jadhav, Devaki Pandit, Usha Nadkarni, Smita Talwalkar, Bharat Dabholkar, Makarand Deshpande, Dr Mohan Agashe, Mrunal Kulkarni, Tushar Dalvi, Sunil Barve, noted art director Nitin Desai. The first Marathi newspaper, Darpan, was started on 6 January 1832 by Balshastri Jambhekar. The paper was bilingual fortnightly also published in English as The Bombay Darpan and stopped publishing in 1840.[1][2] Founded in 1881 by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the daily Kesari was a prominent newspaper of the pre-Independence era with a large readership. Marathi daily Din Bandhu, which focused on social causes of labour class, was the second largest circulation in Bombay Presidencywith 1650 copies a week in 1884.[2] The offices of Hindi and Marathi TV news channels IBN-7 and IBN-Lokmat in Noida and Mumbai were attacked and vandalised by Shiv Sena activists on 20 November 2009 who also slapped the chief editor Nikhil Wagle in the face (footages of which were shown on the channel itself after the attack).[4] Shiv Sena attributed the attacks to the criticisms of Bal Thackeray by the news channel over his remarks on Sachin Tendulkar. Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut described the attacks as "spontaneous although it was vivid to be a planned act by Sena out of frustration of past few tough days of elections. Shiv Sena claimed that the people involved in that spontaneous attack were beaten up by rented goons of the Nikhil Wagle as he was aware of the possible attack.
