Kerala situation... All the 14 districts are declared as drought affected Acute water shortage in summer months Ground water level is fast depleting Wells are drying up in summer months Symptoms of desertification are slowly emerging in different parts of the State
Steps involved in the Planning Process Step 1 • Collection & over laying of maps – • Land Use/Land Cover Map • Hydro-geological Map • Soil Map • Relief Map • Drainage Map • Administrative Map KSLUB has agreed to supply watershed maps of the 245 GPs
Step 2 • Primary Data Collection (Base line survey) • About Private Land • Public Land, and • Drainage Lines • By forming NHGs of 50 Families each • Survey Forms may be prepared • Volunteers may be selected from among these families and thoroughly trained • Present condition and possible interventions may be collected
Step 3 • Secondary Data Collection • Rainfall Pattern • Soil Erosion • Run off • Hydro - geological conditions • Major Crops etc • May be collected from various depts/agencies
Step 4 With the help of maps available • Transect Walk may be conducted for final verification of boundaries and finding out location specific issues and possible interventions
State Technical Resource Team (STRT), District Technical Resource Team (DTRT) & Block Technical Resource Team (BTRT)
SAKSHAM Training Programme • GoI has decided to launch cascading mode of training programme for STRT, DTRT and BTRT • The prime objective of the training programme is to equip the technical persons of MGNREGS in watershed based planning and NRM implementation • The key areas to be addressed in SAKSHAM are :- • Geo-hydrology • Application of GIS in planning • NRM works design • Understanding Climate Resilience • Skills on preparation of DPR for MGNREGS
Role of STRT • Role of STRT is two pronged • To develop a well defined planning process to prepare comprehensive watershed plans • To act as a State level trainer’s group – with the mandate of • Training Need Assessment • Module preparation • Training Plan preparation • Training of DTRT
