The Information Environment Metadata Schema Registry (IEMSR) is a prototype service that collects and serves information about metadata sets. It provides tools to describe metadata schemas, APs, and vocabularies using semantic web technologies. The web interface allows access to this information, while the desktop client tool enables the building of new schemas/APs. The m2m API enables flexible access and reuse of data.

  2. What the project is about? • The Information Environment Metadata Schema Registry (IEMSR) is a prototype service that is designed to collect and serve information about metadata sets • In the beginning... • There was Dublin Core; • Approx. a dozen elements • “Simple” • Then it grew • And became more complex • Until... • Now we need tools to keep metadata about metadata!

  3. Key features of the tool • Describes metadata schemas, APs, vocabularies, using semantic web technologies • Web interface allows access to this information • Desktop client tool provides a simple means to build new schemas/APs using data from existing schemas • m2m API enables flexible access and reuse of data

  4. Demo! • Web • Client

  5. Key outcomes of the project • Phase III: • Assessment of existing s/w platform base • Usability assessment • Incremental improvements to tools • Client • Web • Beta development service and availability

  6. The benefits to the audience • 20 minutes of peaceful sleep • One of several hubs for information on metadata standards • Environment for metadata development activity • Resource for developers making use of metadata • Provides... • Element lists • Documentation • Internationalisation

  7. Where to go for further information • Project web: • http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/projects/iemsr • Handouts available from UKOLN stand!
