  1. Organelle Cell the basic unit of structure and function of organisms an internal structure of a cell that performs a specific function

  2. Cell Membrane Cell Wall aprotective layer surrounding the cell that regulates the flow of material in and out of the cell, as well as communication between cells arigid structure that encloses, supports, and protects the cells of plants, algae, fungi, and most bacteria

  3. Cytoplasm Nucleus an organelle found in some cells that regulates the cell’s activity and stores its genetic information a watery, gel-like substance that fills much of the space inside the cell and continually flows allowing for the transport of materials inside the cell

  4. Vacuole Mitochondria the organelle that breaks down glucose (a sugar) to produce usable energy for the cell; this process is known as respiration. an organelle within the cytoplasm of a cell that is enclosed by a membrane and stores water and other dissolved substances.

  5. Golgi Bodies Lysosome contain digestive enzymes to break down old organelles, waste materials, and foreign invaders. transports lipids and proteins out of the cell in a membrane.

  6. Ribosomes Endoplasmic Reticulum assists in the production, processing, and transport of proteins and in the production of lipids. makes proteins by putting together chains of amino acids using instructions encoded in the cell’s DNA Small dots

  7. Chloroplast Cytoskeleton A network of protein filaments that gives shape and support to cells; also involved in cell division and movement a green organelle found in plant cells that is able to generate glucose using photosynthesis
