Both lobes of the thyroid gland are enlarged. Several small, bilateral nontender thyroid nodules are palpated. Exam is otherwise unremarkable
Identify the organ. Describe the gross findings Diagnosis?
A – large nodule B – small nodule Multinodular Goiter The surgical specimen reveals an asymetrically enlarged thyroid gland. The gland is composed of randomly scattered large and small nodules in both lobes.
Describe the gross findings. The surgical specimen reveals a multinodular goiter which is bisected. The nodules are large (A) and small (B) and vary in color depending on whether there is hemorrhage of fibrosis or colloid distention of follicles.
Describe the gross findings Diagnosis? Multinodular Goiter Cut section of the thyroid gland reveals multiple large and small nodules, some of which contain blood ( arrow).
Describe the low power histologic findings A microscopic section of a multinodular goiter reveals colloid distended follicles (arrow) intermixed with foci of hyperplasia.
