Ladybug fantasies • In many cultures, the lady bug is a symbol of good luck. • In England, the ladybug signifies a good harvest. • In France, the ladybug means good weather is coming. • In Sweden, if a ladybug lands on a girl’s hand it is said to be taking measurements for her wedding gloves.
Ladybugs can make your wishes come true!! • Another popular belief is that if a ladybug lands on you, you should make a wish and chant: • “Ladybug, ladybug fly away home. Your house is on fire and your children all roam.” • If the ladybug flies away, your wish will come true!
Did you know… • Ladybugs can be red, white, yellow, pink, orange or black
Another incredible fact… • Ladybugs are symmetrical. • That means that one ½ of their body is a mirror image of the other ½.
Did you know… • That human faces are almost perfectly symmetrical too! • That means if we drew a line down the middle of your face, that the right side and left side are almost exactly the same!! Just like a ladybug!
Let’s have some fun! • I will take a digital photo of your face. • Then, we will upload all of our photos. • Then, we will use Photoshop to make mirror images of our faces! • I wonder what we will look like!
Once you’re in Photoshop… • Use your selection tool to outline one side of the photo. • Under Image, choose Mirror. • Drag the new image so it will create a new face. • Crop your new image and, • Save and print the new photo!
Now let’s try that without fancy technology! • Print a copy of your “face photo”. • Cut the picture in ½ right down the middle. • Paste the ½ picture to a piece of drawing paper. • Draw the other ½ of your face!
Can you think of other objects that are symmetrical? • Find other pictures of symmetrical objects and repeat the process!
