CHALLENGES • Placing our female students at sea • Paucity of cadet beths creates a bottle neck effect (unemployment) • Attracting the right calibre lecturing staff (Master’s degree & Master Unlimited / Chief Engineer CoC) • Non-recognition of CoC by CPUT (SAQA evaluation ?) • Sourcing funding to develop lecturing staff abroad to Master’s degree level • Updating the TRANSAS simulator to satisfy the revised STCW Manila requirements • No dedicated, SAMSA accredited, MEWT to integrate theoretical & practical training
