Your Blackboard Collaborate session will begin shortly While waiting you can: AUDIO SETUP WIZARD TALK RAISE HAND CHAT • Run through the Audio Setup Wizard (ASW): • Click on the ASW icon (see left); or • Tools Audio Audio Setup Wizard • NOTE: If you do not have a microphone you can skip the configuration • Practice what to do when you have a question: • Raise your hand or type the question into the chat window; or • If you have a microphone • Push the talk button to speak • Press it again when you are done to turn it off • Practice texting in the chat window • Press the Talk button to talk with each other
Familiarize yourself with the Participant Panel Poll Responses Smiley Away Hand Raise • A Few Ground Rules • If you have a question raise your hand • If you step away let me know by using the Away button • You may turn on your Talk button to ask your question once acknowledged • Turn off your Talk button when you are done speaking • If given Moderator Privileges please only click what the instructor tells you to click or use.

Getting Engaged: How to Reach Today’s Students 10 Cool Ways to Engage with Blackboard Collaborate • There’s nothing new about the connection between student engagement and student learning. Educators have been making it for years. • What’s changed is the role that technology plays in the classroom. • What’s changed is the emergence of virtual learning, both real-time and self-paced. • And what’s changed is the students. They’re digital natives – tech savvy, connected, always on – who’ll turn learning off if it’s not deeply engaging.

Enhance Your Face-to-Face Course: Three Ways to Use Collaborate • If professors are not lecturing via recorded sessions online: • Use a virtual meeting room for: Office hours, brainstorming, course meeting rooms. • 2/3rds of that is not recorded lectures.
Web-enhanced Courses Foster Student Interaction (“About web-enhanced courses,” 2013) “Web-enhanced courses • are face-to-face courses that use any form of electronic media to post information, deliver content, provide learning resources, and foster student interaction outside the classroom. • They are not distance education courses, because instruction takes place in the classroom. • Technology is used to support instruction instead of being the main source of course delivery”
Web-Conferencing Enhances Face-to-Face Courses • One way to respond to educational change is thru course design & redesign • Maximizes students’ learning • Helps ensure courses efficiently/effectively prepare students During the last ten years, a third course design optionhas emerged in higher education, including legal education—a blended course that combines the face-to-face and online formats.
