About the Survey • Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Public Policy Research Institute at Texas A&M • Conducted in GCISD every two years since 1998 • All GCISD secondary campuses, with the exception of CHHS, were selected to participate in state sample • CHHS included at GCISD request • Students in grades 7-12 surveyed • Campus specific data provided • Supplemental questions created by GCISD in 2012 have been included in 2016 survey

Substance Abuse Prevention Program Enhancements • Develop additional means to implement alcohol, marijuana, inhalant and tobacco education to students • Research-based prevention programs incorporated into core content lessons • Classroom guidance lessons implemented by counseling staff • Reintroduce “Shattered Dreams” alcohol prevention program • Develop additional means to implement alcohol, marijuana, inhalant and tobacco education to parents • Discussions with local non-profit concerning implementation of a community based substance abuse prevention coalition • Incentives for parents to attend/view parent education programs • Partner with local organizations to offer educational program to parent groups (Apartments, Churches, Non-Profits)
