Resolution & Threshold • Resolution : It is the ability of a measuring system to discriminate between nearly equal value. It can be defined as the difference between two input values of measured quantity corresponding to subsequent smallest change in the output information; input quantity being changed unidirectional. • Threshold : if the instrument input is increased very gradually from zero, there will be some minimum value below which output change can be observed or detected. This minimum value defines the threshold of the instrument. Note : Resolution defines the smallest measurable input change whereas threshold defines smallest measurable input.
Hysteresis Hysteresis is a phenomenon which depicts different effects when loading & unloading. Hysteresis arises due to the fact that all the energy put into stressed parts during loading is not recoverable upon unloading. In a given system no. of causes combine to give hysteresis like internal friction.
