  1. Interesting Facts 17th January 1912 Robert Falcon Scott, a British Naval Officer and Antarctic Explorer reached the South Pole along with four other men. When they got there, they then discovered they were not the first to land. A group of Norwegian Explorers, led by Roald Amundsen had landed a month previous to them on 17th December 1911. It was 1956 before any humans set foot there again. Quote of the Week “The preparation for tomorrow, is doing your best today”

Please can teachers check the timetable so that we can go ahead next week. Global Goals This week Eco Club are going to speak to our own class and visit our Buddy classes to say hello. We are going to ask classes to look at their ideas for working on the Global Goals last year and see what they managed to do. Then we would like everyone to let us know which three Global Goals the school should focus on now. Mrs Gillon will put up a timetable in the staffroom to tell P1-3 teachers when the Buddies will visit their class next week. Please can P4-7 teachers find a space for their Eco Club member to do this with their own class.

  6. Eco Club The Big Schools Birdwatch You can do the Big Schools Birdwatch any time before the end of February. There are lots of resources on the RSPB website. Please ask Mrs Gillon if you need any help. Lindsay Taylor from the RSPB is visiting some classes to talk about birds and make fatballs to feed them. Then we are hoping that as many classes as possible will join in with the Big Schools Birdwatch. Please let Mrs Gillon know if your class will be taking part and where you would like to go to count the birds.

Mrs Spence gave us lots of information about the wide range of books available at the Library, such as baby books, picture books, information books, audio books and many more. She said you can take out as many as 12 books at one time, for up to four weeks! Mrs Spence explained that Bookbug offers a great service of delivering a bag of books and goodies to children to encourage reading. This is offered to babies, 3 year olds and P1 children. P2 and P3 children receive the “Read, Write and Count” bags too.
