  2. 1. This is a difficult passage. 2. Put away your “mental template.” 3. This topic has long been a source of conflict. 4. No apologies.

  3. We need to have discernment because deception abounds. v.1-2

  4. We need to have discernment because apostasy exists. v.3-5 “rebellion” = “falling away.” (apostasy)

  5. There will be a great defection from the faith before the coming of the Lord. The man of lawlessness/son of perdition will be revealed.

  6. We need to have discernment because not everything in God’s Word is clear. v.6-7

  7. "Because of the fluctuation predisposition of your position's productive capacity as juxtaposed to standard norms, it would be momentarily injudicious to advocate your requested increment." The puzzled worker went to the supervisor and said, "If this is about my pay raise, I don't get it." "That's right," said the supervisor. 

  8. We need to have discernment about what will take place when the Lord returns. v.8-12 “shining forth of Christ into the world.”

  9. Learn to discern.
