“Appalachian Spring” • Written in 1942. • Ballet written for Martha Graham. • Well-known dancer of the time. • Originally titled “Ballet for Martha”. • She mentioned the title “Appalachian Spring” as it felt more “American”. • Based off a poem by Hart Crane
