The Presence of Jesus Introduction • Wherever Jesus was things changed. • Nothing ever stayed the same around Jesus. • In this 14th chapter of Matthew we find some amazing things about the presence of Jesus.
The Presence of Jesus • The Presence of Jesus Brings Uneasiness to the Wicked Crowd (14:1-12). • Herod thought that John the Baptist had risen from the dead. • He had a guilty conscience about what he had done.
The Presence of Jesus • The presence of Jesus causes people to be uneasy and to worry. • This is one of the reasons why many advocacy groups try to remove God from the public sector. • Any mention of God makes people furious and puts them on the defensive.
The Presence of Jesus • The presence of Jesus causes the wicked to become uneasy. • People try to hide their habits...from the presence of Jesus. • This uneasiness is conviction of sin.
The Presence of Jesus • The Presence of Jesus Will Draw People (14:13-14). 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. (Matt 14:13-14)
The Presence of Jesus • We can draw a crowd many ways. • Through entertainment. • Through programs. • Through sensationalism. • The best way is through Jesus.
The Presence of Jesus • The people came out of the cities to find Jesus. 32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.” (John 12:32)
The Presence of Jesus • We need to lift up Jesus before this lost and dying world. • When Christians magnify the Lord Jesus Christ in their lives, others will take notice and will be drawn to Him. • The greatest need we have is for the presence and power of Jesus Christ to be in our lives.
The Presence of Jesus • The Presence of Jesus Will Bring about Miraculous Events 14:15-21). • The feeding of the multitude. • The disciples saw only the impossibilities. • With Jesus’ presence nothing is impossible!
The Presence of Jesus • The point is this: • In the presence of Jesus every need is satisfied (cf. Ps. 107:9). • Do you have a need today? • Jesus is the answer!
The Presence of Jesus • The Presence of Jesus: • Brings assurance (14:22-30). • Brings safety (14:31-32). • Demands worship (14:33). • Causes us to be concerned about others (14:34-36).
The Presence of Jesus 34 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed. (Matt 14:34-36)
The Presence of Jesus Conclusion • Do you know the presence of Jesus in your life? • Have you been born again? • Come today whatever your need and find the answer in the presence of Jesus Christ.
