Mission Statement / Vision Assignment A 06.1 Te Whariki • Write your own Mission Statement. • Draft due as DQ 1, FRIDAY 1/8. • Final due Mon 3/8. • Review and comment on each person’s Mission Statement by Mon 3/22. This curriculum is founded on the following aspirations for children: • to grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, • healthy in mind, body, and spirit, • secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.(Ministry of Education [New Zealand], 2009 [emphasis & bullets added])

Mission Statement Ideas Describe the children… IDEAS (p. 1): • 20 years from now • 1st day of Kindergarten/1st grade • Today—at school • Today—at home • Value that children are capable & competent • Environment set up to help co-construct knowledge • Conflict resolution = good reason for Mission Statement • Child-centered & relationship-based • Teacher-staff-family concerted effort • Respect • Teacher continuing education; continuously reevaluating program
