Module 4 Relevant SAS Doctor Contract Terms and Conditions of Service
SAS Contract • The following reflect some of the main TCS elements that affect job planning
SAS Doctors 2008 Contract for Specialty Doctors and new closed Associate Specialist grade: • Job Plan ‘currencies’ are the same; • Job planning process is the same; • Rest of TCS set out below N.B. variety of old closed grades still exist with own T&Cs
Entry & Progression • Entry: at least 4 years postgrad training, 2 of which must be in specialty • Progression: via increments & 2 thresholds • Increments: meet job plan requirements • Threshold 1: also 360 degree appraisal • Threshold 2: also demonstrate higher skills, experience & responsibility
The Working Week For full-time doctors:- • 10 Sessions with timetabled value of 4 hours each • Can programme in blocks of 4 hours or half units of 2 hours
Additional Sessions • Can be contracted up to WTD maximum • Separate contract • Must be agreed & reviewed at least annually as part of job planning • No enhanced rates for this as ‘overtime’
Work Outside Normal Week • Doctors may be required to take part in shifts or on call rotas • Work outside 7am to 7pm weekdays, weekends, & on public holidays will attract enhanced rate of time and one third
On Call • Regular & predictable emergency work to be part of normal sessions in job plan • On-call arrangements for less predictable emergency work • On-call supplement payable depending on frequency of rota • Work done while on-call paid at normal rate
On-Call Supplements On-call rota is: • 1:4 or more frequent – 6% • Less than 1:4 up to 1:8 – 4% • Less than 1:8 - 2% of basic salary
