No. • We agreed that 7 years of environment-related experience with 3 to 4 of those years in a position of responsible charge* is the appropriate minimum level of experience for individuals who have an “environment-related academic background.” • We agreed that 11 years of environment-related experience with 3 to 4 of those years in a position of responsible charge is the appropriate minimum level of experience for individuals who do not have an environment-related academic background. • When the whole group met, there was some concern about the length of time, particularly regarding individuals who have non-environment academic background. • The QEP program makes a two year distinction (rather than a four-year distinction) between those that do and don’t. So more discussion is warranted here. • * to be defined by future work. Yes • Based on qualification & experience for the task at hand. • Based on evidence of activities upon which the employing organization relies upon the individual for its decision making in within his or her specific area of expertise/knowledge/specialization. Discussion Questions – Experience Related If a person is to be designated as an Environmental Professional empowered to do specified tasks (coordinate air quality measurements, write spill prevention plans etc.) should the term “relevant environment-related work experience” be defined, and if so, how should it be defined?
Yes. • With additional consideration being given for advance degree in the environment-related disciplines only. Discussion Questions – Experience Related Should there be a different standard for the required number of years of environment-related work experience for an individual with: a. an environmental/ [scientific]-specific academic background; and b. a non-environmental/ [non-environmental]-specific academic background?
