Our Mission We, the students and staff of Sandusky Middle School, will work together to create a positive and safe school climate, which enables everyone to achieve their social and academic potential.
Immunizations Tdap – Required for ALL 7th graders Erie County Health Department Outreach Clinics – Watch for upcoming dates and times on our webpage. If you have an appointment scheduled, bring documentation to the nurse. Once your child receives his/her immunization, please provide written documentation to your child’s school nurse.
Four Teams 7th Grade Teams Mantis and Raptor 8th Grade Teams Gatekeeper and Maverick Two teams per grade level.
New School Day Hours Student Hours: 8:20 - 3:06 Doors Open: 8:00 Tardy Bell: 8:24 All Busses, Car transports, and Walkers will enter the High School Cafeteria door at the back (south east) end of the High School building. At dismissal, walkers will exit the SMS front (south) main entrance. Busses will pick students up at the SMS front (south) entranceand will exit Perkins Avenue. Parents will enter the high school parking lot from the Hayes Avenue entrance and pick students up at the SMS back (north) entrance. All cars must exit Perkins Avenue.

Academic Coursework • 7 - 50 minute class periods • 4 - Core subjects: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies • 1 - Rotation Class per nine weeks: Art, Computer, Health, and Reading • 1 - 21st Century Skills Class • 1 – S.L.C. Class (Social skills, Life skills, Character education)
Course Levels 7th and 8th Grade Regular English, Math, Science, Social Studies Honors English, Math, Science, Social Studies 8th Grade Only Algebra - Advanced Placement Class for High School credit
Honor Class Criteria Sixth grade teacher makes the recommendation based on the following past performances: OAA Scores Benchmarks Short-cycle Assessments Grades Classes are accelerated and project based. Students must be self motivated and responsible.
Planners Used as hall passes Useful for writing down home work assignments. Helps students remember when projects are due and tests are scheduled. Aids parents in reinforcing good study habits.
Attendance It is important to be in attendance every day Call School before 8:30 at 419-984-1180 Absent students must return with a signed note stating absence or the absence will be recorded as unexcused Doctor’s note; ER note are acceptable If attendance becomes excessive, students may be required to bring in a doctors excuse or may be referred to the court
Tardies Homeroom Tardies: 5 tardies = administrative detention 10 tardies = extended detention and letter home 15+ = Saturday School Notification to Juvenile Court Attendance Officer Classroom Tardies: 10 minutes or less is an administrative detention Any class tardy exceeding 10 minutes will be considered class truancy and the consequence will be a Saturday School.

Dress Code Policy ID’s must be worn daily First ID with a red lanyard is free Second ID is $5.00 Red Lanyard is $3.00 These ID’s serve as a lunch card, library card and Middle School Student ID
Electronics We are an electronics free facility All electronics must be turned off and put into the locker Any student with an electronic device on their person must place it in a plastic baggie marked with their full name and date. The staff member will turn it into the office for safe keeping Students may pick up the device after school. After the second offense, parent/guardian will be required to pick up the device
Locks & Lockers School issued locks only Lost lock fine $5.00 Sharing of lockers is not permitted Lockers need to be locked at all times Keep combination private Lockers belong to the district Lockers can be searched by administrators at all times
