What happened when James Marshall found gold? First of all James Marshall told John Sutter then they tested to see if it really was gold. And it was! They tried to keep it their little secret but more and more people found out.
Overland route People from miles away came to California on 3 different routes one of them is the overland route. People traveled a very long way a very long way with mule to pull them in wagons.
Panama shortcut Is where you go up the Chagres River for about 75 miles, then a large streamer would take you about 30 days.
BY Boat Is the route to California down and around South America. This route was very difficult too.
Children of the gold rush Many times children did not go to the gold fields or the women but sometimes they did so when they went they just helped out a little when they could.
Merchants!!! Who got rich? Now it was not the gold miners who got rich it was the … Merchants who got rich! They would sell shovels and other mining tools they would sell millions of tools to millions of people and that’s how they got RICH.
