Refining Inductions and Deepening Hypnovations Intermediate Workshop April, 2010 Molly DeLaney, PsyD delaneydoc@aol.com
Learning Objectives • Participants will be able to identify several deepening techniques to use in hypnotic inductions. • Participants will be able to identify hypnoprojectives that can be used in hypnotic induction to facilitate deepening.
Naturalistic Approaches to Deepening: Matching the Client’s Style • The anxious or hyper-vigilant client • The depressed client • Children • ‘Resistant’ • When to use a mulit-modal approach
Deepening language • Images of downward motion or moving further into an experience • Pacing and leading with voice intonation • Voice intonation that matches language • Suggestions of greater absorption and focus • Suggestions that consider the patient’s issue; e.g., avoid using ‘deeper’ with depressed patients
Deepening Strategies • Matching breathing/pacing deeper and slower breaths • Counting downward: either facilitated by you or given as an instruction • Fractionation technique • Confusion techniques
Internal work as a deepening technique • Going to the ‘middle of nowhere’ • Use of silence • Conversation with a wise internal guide • Connecting with the deep Self • Coupling internal work with going further into trance
Utilize their autonomous behaviors and other talents • Utilize, utilize, utilize • Mirroring • Further, not deeper • Pacing • Leading • Presuppositions • Embedded Commands
Hypnoprojectives: “Imagery” to intensify the trance experience • Examples:~ walking down stairs~counting down~relaxing force~elevator~sweeping ~floating
Hypnoprojectives for general use~clouds~floating in water~hearing music~cookies baking~ stairway/elevator
