  2. Key features of the middle school experience • Teaming concept • 5 core teachers with the same group of students • Enhanced awareness of students’ strengths and needs • 6-day rotating schedule • Agenda planners for organization • Increased freedom = increased responsibility

  3. Language arts standards • Reading • Writing • Speaking • Listening • Viewing • Researching The English and reading teacher work hand-in-hand to increase students’ fluency in these areas. How are the courses different?

  4. 7th Grade English Curriculum Theme is Self-Discovery • Classroom texts • Class novels • Units of study • Vocabulary • Writing • Grammar • Speaking and listening • Research

Materials and procedures • Materials needed on a daily basis: • 3-ring binder divided into four sections • Loose leaf paper • Two pencils (at least) • Agenda book • Procedures: • Daily homework assignments • Long-term projects • Grading—Percentage points for a grade. Students are permitted to take home most assessments, with the exception of district tests. • No extra credit! Points for correcting assignments that fall below a “C”
