SAM 2007 v.2.0 The Student Experience
Initial Setup • Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. • Launch your web browser (Internet Explorer 6 or higher). • Enter http://sam2007.course.com to visit the SAM 2007 login page. • Alternately, you may double-click the SAM 2007 icon on your desktop.
Login Page No username/password: Click the new user button. This will open the institution key screen. If you have a username/password: Enter your username and password in the appropriate fields, and click the login button.
Institution Key You will need to enter your Institution Key here. V7515899 Once you have entered the institution key, SAM will ask you to verify that you have selected the correct institution key for your institution. Select “OK” if this is correct.
Key Code Entry If your institution has purchased the key code version of SAM 2007, you will enter your key code here. If your institution purchased a site license version of SAM 2007, no key code is necessary; skip to the next step.
User Profile Now you will need to create your SAM User Profile, (fields with a * are required before you can save) including your time zone, as well as a secret question and answer that will be used for security purposes should you ever forget your password. Click Save when you’re done.
Profile Confirmation This screen serves as a confirmation to the Profile you created on the previous screen. If all information is accurate, click Confirm. If it’s not correct, click Revise and go back to the prior screen to edit.
Terms & Conditions The SAM 2007 TERMS and CONDITIONS will display. Read them fully, and then click the Agree button to accept the terms and conditions and continue. If the agreement is not accepted, SAM 2007 automatically exits.
Reset Your Password After you accept the TERMS & CONDITIONS you will be asked to answer the secret question you chose when creating your user profile. Answer this question, then click Submit. After you correctly answer the secret question, you will be asked to choose a new password. After you do so, click Submit.
Welcome Screen You should now see the SAM Welcome Screen. This is where you will begin each SAM session. If SAM 2007 is not yet installed on your computer, click the links under Software to install the three components you will need, in the order they are listed. Next, click Sections in the left navigation bar. (You must be enrolled in a section in order to see the assignments your instructor has set up for you.)
Join a Section First, click Join a Section. Then, from the list of available sections on the left, check the box next to the section you are enrolled in. Click the top, right arrow to bring it into My Sections and then click Save at the bottom.
Sections to Assignments You will receive a confirmation message with the name of the section you just joined; click OK. Now you can retrieve the assignments scheduled for your section by clicking on SAM Assignments on the left navigation bar.
SAM Assignments From the SAM Assignments screen, you will be able to sort based on due date, type of assignment and more. Simply click on the name of the Training or Exam assignment (it should be a link) to get started.
Taking a SAM Exam Once you launch a SAM exam, you will see the SAM Content Player. The application you will be working in is on the top, and all of your instructions for the task, as well as your controls for moving through the exam, are at the bottom.
SAM Exam Controls Here is your task text, which you will need to follow to complete the task above. Click here to exit the exam without completing all of the questions. Click here to reset the task to its original state. (You will not regain any incorrect attempts.) Click this button to view all tasks in the exam, and skip to a particular task if you’d like. Use this control to skip forward and backward through tasks in the exam. *Once you complete a task correctly or use all of your incorrect attempts, you will automatically be advanced to the next task.*
Taking a CourseAssessExam Once you launch a CourseAssess exam, you will see the CourseAssess Content Player. The application you will be working in is on the top, and all of your instructions for the task are at the bottom. *Please note that you will be marked incorrect anytime you start down a wrong pathway, for example, by clicking on the wrong menu to begin a task.*
CourseAssess Exam Controls If you commit an incorrect action, you will see the red window pictured here. To try the task again (if you still have remaining attempts), click the back arrow. If you would like to move on to the next question, click the forward arrow. You can also skip ahead by clicking the Skip button at the bottom. You will only be able to return to the task at the end of the exam.
CourseAssess Exam Controls cont. If you get a task correct, you will see this red box, and you will need to click on the forward arrow to advance to the next question. Once you have gone through all tasks in an exam, you will be brought to the Review Page pictured at the left. You will see a green “play button” next to any task that you have remaining attempts for. You may return to re-attempt any of these tasks by clicking that button. If you’re satisfied with your current attempts, just click Exit.
Congratulations! You have now successfully logged into SAM 2007, joined a section, and started an assignment! In the future, you can log in to SAM 2007 using the username and password you just set up. You will not need the student keycode again.
