  1. MICU Pilot: Virtual Access to Clinical Workstations (VCWS) • What is Virtual Access: • Allows a staff member to re-open their last charting session where they left off • No waiting for HED, WIZ, or Starbrowser to load…open each program once at the beginning of the shift and leave open

Steps for logging into a virtual session • Click in the box “Logon to VCWS” • Enter VUNetID and Password • Click OK or press the enter key • After a brief pause the desktop will load • Click on Desktop icons to access desired programs (HED, Starbrowser, etc.) VCWS = Virtual Clinical Workstation

  3. Throughout your shift leave open all programs you may need to re-access later When you’re finished with your current documentation session, click the lock or red X. The CWS will close down like normal When you log back in from any Virtualized CWS, all of your programs will still be running right where you left off

  4. Things to Consider • Safety: Since your previous charting session will reopen to the last patient you charted on, be mindful to select the right patient every time you re-log on to your virtualized charting session. • Refresh: Since your charting session is continuously running you will have to refresh all screens to see the most up to date information on your patient • Technical Issues: • If your virtual session stops working (freezes up) you can restart your session by clicking on the “Restart VM” button in the right upper corner of the desktop • If the “Restart VM” Button does not resolve the issue, go back to charting under your non virtualized VUNet ID (by unchecking VCWS on the log on screen), log a Help Desk ticket

  5. Things to Consider • HED: Save any/all HED documentation before every log off! HED has strict timeout limits. HED will automatically close if it is not used within 60 minutes. • 1st Log-on of your shift: The 1st log-on of your shift will take up to 30 seconds to process. All log-on attempts thereafter will process much faster • Desktop technical issues: • Starbrowser does not automatically load (see Starbrowser icon) • Desktop icons may change location on screen • Questions: During business hours please email any questions or comments to Tom Mack 260-1505
