  1. DXN Code Strike Do not try to construct muscles if you're getting ready for a marathon or even handling other intense cardio vascular workouts. Resistance exercise improves muscle protein balance, but, in the absence of food intake, the balance remains negative (i.e., catabolic). The window of opportunity for high protein absorption closes after 4-6 hours, so getting in a meal before then is critical to building, and sustaining, muscle. It's recommended that you use weight training exercises to build up the weakened muscles. This reduces the amount of money I spend on my protein but ensures I get the highest quality protein right when my muscles need it the most.
