Hebrews 11:1 • Now faith is the substance of things hoped for… • Substance (HUPOSTASIS) also in Heb. 1:3: • Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person… • …the evidence of things not seen. • Evidence(ELENGCHOS)“proof” legal term • Verb form in John 8:46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? • Terms must be understood in their context in10:34-39

Hebrews 11 • Look for these words: see, testify, promise • Evidence of things not seen v.1 • The elders obtained a good testimonyv.2 • things which are seen were not made of things which are visible v.3 • Abel…obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts…v.4 • By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Hebrews 11 • Look for these words: see, testify, promise • He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him v.6 • Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen v.7 • Abraham v.8-19 heirs of the same promise • Sarah…judged Him faithful who had promised • …promises…having seen them afar off • They seek a homeland • Having received the promises

Hebrews 11 • Look for these words: see, testify, promise • They saw a beautiful child v.23 • He looked to the reward v.26 • He endured as seeing Him who is invisiblev.27 • Obtained promisesv.33 • Obtained testimony through faith v.39 • Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses…let us run 12:1 • Looking unto Jesus 12:2 • You must finish the race to obtain the prize

The word of God • Obedience of faith proves God’s word Romans 12:2 • Faithfulness produces testimony of God v.2 • Faithfulness speaks long after death v.4 • Faith sees what is invisible v.27 • Faithfulness will receive what is invisible v.16
