  5. Aspire Achieve Excel Tips to succeed! Complete all questions and respond to all prompts provided. Use all of the time provided to you. Know when to use quotes and when to use your own words. For the extended paper, you only refer to quotations in question 2. For questions 1 and 3, you must use your own words. For the core paper, use quotes in question 1. For question 2 use your own words. Proof read your work. Re-read each paragraph you write. Check the following carefully: Are sentences clearly marked? Have you used capitals for names? Are homophones used correctly? (there/ their/ they’re) Have you made impressive vocabulary choices?

Please speak to your child’s teacher to confirm tier of entry Paper 1: Exploring Dramatic Texts (20th May): Of Mice and Men / An Inspector Calls Paper 2: Exploring Poetry (22nd May): Conflict Poetry from The Moon on the Tides/ Unseen Poetry Pupils must be revising these texts by re-reading them, accessing revision guides and watching educational videos on Youtube.

The examination will focus on ability to analyse language and how writer’s create effects for readers. Pupils are expected to refer to quotations in all questions. Aim to use 4-6 quotations for each text. Marks are available for spelling, punctuation and grammar so proof read your work. Re-read each paragraph you write. Check the following carefully: Are sentences clearly marked? Have you used capitals for names? Are homophones used correctly? (there / their / they’re) Have you made impressive vocabulary choices?

Timing – pupils are to spend roughly 1 minute per mark All workings must be shown for every question Drawings must be completed in pencil so that any mistakes can be changed easily as no extra paper is allowed At the end go through your work and check your calculations (in the calculator paper make sure that all calculations are checked using the calculator).

  12. Aspire Achieve Excel Tips to succeed! Think about what the problem is asking you to do (this is often stated in the last sentence of the problem). Write down the formula you plan to use and label which numbers you want to input into each part. Check your answer to see if it makes sense. Interpret the results correctly, giving both the “statistically correct” answer (I’m 95 percent confident that the population mean is 16 inches, plus or minus 1 inch”) and the “answer in the context of the problem” (“This means we are 95 percent confident that the average height of this breed of dog is between 15 and 17 inches”).

  16. Aspire Achieve Excel BTEC –Applied Science Double Pathway – Pupils who started ‘Principles of Applied Science’ and are taking ‘Applications of Applied Science’ this year. These pupils will sit two exams this year. Single Pathway - Pupils who did Core GCSE last year will only be sitting the ‘Applications of Applied Science’ exam Examination Dates: Principles of Applied Science 4th March and 5th June (for resits) Applications of Applied Science 7th March and 9th June (for resits)

Aspire Achieve Excel General Advice for examinations Mark a minute so time yourself carefully Start by going through and answering all the ones you can do first so you don't run out of time on questions you could have answered Underline command words describe, explain, suggest, in the question.

Aspire Achieve Excel Data Questions Read all the data given as the information provides answers Use data and quote back facts in your answer when it tells you to Use the equation sheets and carefully select the correct equations to use – you may need to use more than one for a question Check you haven't missed out one mark questions where there aren't lines to write eg. if you have to add plots or a line of best fit to a graph Show working out for all calculations and equations that you have used Include units in all your answers.

Aspire Achieve Excel 6 Mark QWC questions – GCSE & BTEC 6 mark QWC questions involve extended writing just like we've practiced in class Brainstorm useful scientific keywords and put them in the margin before you start. This will help develop your answer You can use bullet points if it helps you sequence your ideas they must still be full sentences for QWC marks Read back your work to check spellings and grammar is accurate to get the QWC mark These questions could be asking you to write a practical method - remember to include what you will measure, equipment and controls.

Past papers and sample papers – AQA and BTEC website Revision guides - CGP for GCSE Workbooks – GCP workbooks for GCSE; Pearson workbooks for BTEC Enrichment – Thursdays in the Science department Due to the nature of preparing for potentially up to 6 examinations we encourage pupils to devise a revision plan on how to distribute time between all three sciences.
