  5. Technology Applications Credit Technology Literacy Each student in Texas high schools must have one credit in a Technology Applications course to graduate. Texas State Graduation Requirements

  7. Teaching and Learning Technology integration is a critical part of teaching and learning. TCET

  8. Technology Applications • Became effective in September 1998. • Include K-12 standards. • Serve as guidelines for student technology proficiencies. Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills TEKS

Educator TA Certification Standards • Required for all beginning teachers. • Incorporated into the assessments for Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities. • Based on 6-8 Technology Applications TEKS. Technology Applications Standards for all Beginning Teachers from the State Board for Educator Certification.

  10. Teachers See standards for Computer Science teachers (grades 8-12) and for Technology Applications teachers (grades 8-12) linked from the standards page at The State Board for Educator Certification.

  11. Master Technology Teacher • Primary duty is mentoring other teachers. • Certification assessments will be implemented in the 2003-04 school year. • Pending appropriations, there will be stipends for teachers. TCET Master Technology Teacher Standards

  12. Texas Technology Applications Standards • Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for K-12 students (TEKS). • Technology Applications Standards for all Beginning teachers are based on TEKS. • Master Technology Teacher Certification.

  18. Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund (TIF) • The TIF Board facilitates the implementation of telecommunications infrastructure for universal connectivity. • Priority for funds are given to rural and underserved populations. Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund

  19. T-Star Network • Established in 1989 • Provided a T-STAR/TVRO (Television Receive Only) satellite dish and receiver to each school district. • T-STAR Information and Training Center provides training and support. • Broadcasts digitally. T-Star Network

  20. Texas Education Telecommunications Network • Two-way videoconferencing between regional service centers and TEA. • Uses dedicated T-1 lines. • Also transfers school data between ESCs and TEA. TCET Texas Education Telecommunications Network

  22. Texas Legislature • Supports technology and technology planning across Texas in public schools. • Provides funding for technology initiatives. • Supports T-Star Network, TETN Network, access to the Internet, and the Texas Library Connection.
