  1. Mr. Popper’s Penguins By: Richard and Florence Atwater Jake Schachter

  2. The Amazing Mr. Popper’s Penguins! Mr. Popper is a painter who lives in a small and peaceful town called Stillwater. He has two children named Jane and Bill and he loves reading about the Arctic. While Mr. Popper was following Admiral Drake’s expedition in the Arctic on the radio, he sent a letter admiring him. About a week later, he got a package from Admiral Drake. Inside, was a penguin! He fixed up his whole house to where it was a suitable living place for the penguin and made it his pet. About two weeks later, Admiral Drake sent another penguin up but this time, a girl. Little did Mr. Popper know, he soon had a family of penguins. Mr. Popper and his family are very poor and the penguins are pecking up their money. They would have to get the money somehow. What will they do?

  3. Text from the Book! “Maybe we could sell them to somebody, and then we would have a little money to live on, “ said Mrs. Popper. “No,” said Mr. Popper, “I have a better idea. We will keep the penguins. Mamma, you have heard of trained seals, acting in theaters?” “Of course I have heard of trained seals,” answered Mrs. Popper… “Very well then,” said Mr. Popper, “if there can be trained dogs and trained seals, why can’t there be trained penguins?” I chose this excerpt from the book because it shows the readers what Mr. Popper is all about. Since he loves the Arctic, he wouldn’t want to give away the only piece he has of it; the penguins. So he decided to train them using the values that he has: knowledge, and creativity.

  4. Why I Liked this Great book! I liked this book because of the creativity the authors show. Who would have thought of a group of performing penguins! One of the reasons why I read this book is because it shows an exciting adventure that revealed Mr. Poppers inside- his wonderful imagination! These are the types of books that I like. The ones that bring out someone’s values through out a great journey. This book is also funny because I got to read about how a group of penguins reacted to one another. They always fought and did the most weirdest things! I was just laughing through the whole book. Lastly, I also like how interesting a normal life can be. It all started with a poor painter. Who would have known that the performing penguins started off from a painter in the small town of Stillwater! These reasons are why I loved this book!
