Biohazardous Waste • Dry Solids • Collect in a rigid leak resistant container with a lid and labeled with the Biohazard Symbol that is lined with a “RED” bag and labeled with: • The words “Biohazard” • Must have International Biohazard symbol • SDSU’s Name Address and Phone number. Biohazardous Waste • Liquid • If you are not trained, do not handle biohazardous liquid waste.
Biohazardous Waste • Sharps • Must not contain any liquid. • Collect in a rigid, puncture and leak resistant, properly labeled sharps container. • Must have International Biohazard symbol and the word: “Biohazard” • “Generator Address Label” attached
Biohazardous Waste Disposal • If you need to dispose of biohazardous waste or a sharps container, call EH&S (x46778) to arrange a pick up. NEVER place it in the regular municipal trash.
Frequently Asked Question • Q: If come across a blood spill or some type of body fluid, what should I do? • A: Unless it is your own blood or fluid, do not try to clean it up. Call Physical Plant’s Work Control (x44754) or EH&S (x46778) to have someone clean it. Only people with specific training on blood borne pathogens or infectious agents should clean up this type of spill!!
