Our 2012-13 Corporate Sponsors: Teacher and Staff Member in the Spotlight Program Description
Who created this program and why? Charles Wynne created this program with the support of Sue Braiman in October 2010 for the following reasons: • Rewarding our hard-working professional team • Boosting the morale of our professional team • Improving school-business relationships
New in 2010! • 2010-11 was the first school year we implemented this program • Since we started, we have received donations from several corporate sponsors to support this program • Webb’s Candies (10-11) • Wal-Mart (10-11) • Bok Tower Gardens (10-11) • First Choice Pharmacy (11-12) • Southern Dunes (11-12) • Tuffy Auto (12-13) • Pizzano’s Pizza (12-13)
What is the SPOTLIGHT program? • Each month, the committee chair opens up nominations by staff members. • The committee then narrows down the nominations to two in each category • The general populous votes on their choice
How do I nominate someone? • Send the staff member’s full name and a reason for your nomination to MEL GABLES for your nomination to be counted
How do you get on the committee? • You must win the SPOTLIGHT in order to be on the committee. Each year, the winners from the prior year are placed on the committee and the previous committee is then absolved of their responsibilities.
Isn’t this just a popularity contest? • It is ONLY a popularity contest if the members of the committee or staff members make it so. • This program is intended to reward the hard working teachers and staff members on our team.
Who is on the committee? • The committee includes a myriad of different staff people. For 2012-13, the following are the members of the committee: • Joshua Nelson • Lori McKown (PR) • Lori Proctor • Joshua Gompper • Jason Gooden • SFC Harris • Mel Gables (Chair) • Brody Ogzewalla • Sandra Teti • Sabra Hatley • Igdelia Reyes • Pam Loomans • Debbie Ferguson • Gary Carlson • Kathy Quinn (Corporate) • April Blaze
Committee Positions • Head Chairperson • Announces opening of nominations and criteria for nominations • Collects nominations and sends email to committee for voting. • Announces winners to staff • Awards winners certificate and gift card • Public Relations Chairperson • Creates posters as has them color printed and posted around the school (this person needs a student aide) • Posts winners on the website (through Jason Gooden) • Prints certificates and gets them signed by Principal (gives to corporate liaison) • Corporate Liaison Chairperson • Drums up corporate sponsorship • Works with corporate sponsors to advertise their involvement and help them drum up business • Presents winners with gift cards from businesses and their award certificate signed by Principal.
How does voting work? • Once nominations have been made by the committee: • Voting ballots will be available for two days in the cafeteria and offices.
Classifications for voting • Staff Members • Secretaries • Paraprofessionals • Guidance Counselors • ESE Consult Teachers • Resource Teachers • Custodians • Cafeteria Staff • Deans • Administrators • Teachers • All Classroom Teachers NOTE: Although many “staff members” are technically “TEACHERS,” the committee decided to distinguish between classroom teachers and non-classroom teachers and staff.
If you won last year, can you win again this year? • NO • You are part of the committee for the year after you win and after another group of winners has been created and chairs appointed, those individuals can be nominated again. • This means we have a 2 year roll over plan
How do you award the SPOTLIGHT for the month? • They are awarded a certificate of appreciation • They receive a gift-card or admission from a corporate sponsor • They are recognized on the news • They are displayed on posters all around the school with quotes from the person(s) who nominated them so they are recognized school wide
