  2. First Continental Congress • Date: September 5, 1774 to October 26, 1774. • Location: Carpenter’s Hall Philadelphia, PA • 56 delegates, 12 of the 13 colonies (Georgia)

  3. First Continental Congress • Would outline what the next course of action • Economic boycott British trade, including a cease of exports to Britain. • Established a second meeting if the Intolerable Acts was not receded.

  4. Lexington and Concord • Minutemen : civilian soldiers • Advantages • Knows the land • Larger numbers • Disadvantages • Little training

  5. Lexington and Concord • Britain General Gage, got word that the colonists were stocking up on weapons and ammo, foreshadowing? • General Gage also was informed that Samuel Adams and John Hancock was hiding out in Lexington. • Britain would send fleets of soldiers to remove the uprising.

  6. Setting the scene • Minuteman unsure when and where the British would attack. • Would set up signals (church bells, and gun shots) • Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Samuel Prescott would ride out to tell the cities towards Lexington • All Sons of Liberty • “The Regulars are Coming”

The battle/ April 18 • Britain would arrive at sunrise • 70 minutemen present • Would kill eight, wound 10 of them • Rebels would retreat. • The British soldiers would turn around and see 3,000 – 4,000 minutemen around them. • Dropped by the dozens. • Samuel Adams: “ a glorious day for America”
