    1. How to find the Mass of an object

    2. The triple beam balance A triple-beam balance gets its name because it has three beams that allow you to move known masses along the beam.

    3. Why use a triple beam balance? The triple beam balance gives a true measure of mass. A triple beam balance compares a known mass to an unknown mass It is unaffected by gravity

    4. How to use a triple beam balance Carrying the Balance 1. Be sure all riders are back to the zero point (left side). 2. Place one hand under the balance and the other hand on the support (arm) to carry the balance.

    5. Riders What does a rider do? There are three riders on a triple beam balance. Each one has a different mass. The front rider measures 0-10 grams The middle rider measures 0-500 grams The back rider measures 0-100 grams

    6. Calculate the mass?

    7. Calculate the mass

    8. Calculate the mass?

    9. The ABC’s of zeroing a triple beam balance. You must Zero the balance before you determine the mass of any substance.         a) Slide all of the riders back to the left side (zero point).         b) Check to see that the pointer swings freely along the scale.

    10. Adjustment screw
