BACKGROUND HISTORY 12 municipalities attended 10 sent formal apologies First convergence 24 June 2004 Polokwane Municipality • Resolutions of the meeting • An interim committee was formed consisting of one member from each district municipality. • Convener of the interim committee meetings was nominated • Mandate of the interim committee: • To introduce the forum to other structures and stakeholders, i.e. DPLG, PGITOC, SITA, Municipal manager’s forum, SALGA and ensurethat the benefits are realised thereof • Conduct research on similar structures, and study their guidelines • Represent municipalities in DLG&H IT support meetings • To create an environment which will influence communication amongst IT managers/officers across all the provincial Municipalities. • To discuss transversal Information management, and communication technology (ICT) issues Affecting the municipalities • To establish a provincial IT workgroup • To prepare for the coming DPLG IT support meeting

Objectives of the Forum To create an environment where • Local government IT practitioners share ideas, experiences, lessons learnt and insights on industry specific topics and find solutions to problems, and develop a common approach and practices. • Local government ICT projects are initiated, deeply discussed, co-coordinated and consolidated before implementation • ICT trends are analyzed and how they can enable better service delivery to all communities (e-community) • All people involved in the implementation of the E-government at the municipality level can speak in one voice.
