DEFINITION • According to Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Person.. • Human Trafficking : Illegal trade of human beings for the purpose of: • Reproductive Slavery • Commercial Sexual Exploitation • Forced Labor • Modern day form of Slavery.
MALAYSIA AS A SOURCE • How? • Malaysian women and children are trafficked for sexual exploitation. • Where? • Singapore, Macau Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Canada and so on. • Why? • Human trafficking is a lucrative industry. Total revenue for trafficking is USD 5 Billion to USD 9 Billion.
MALAYSIA AS A DESTINATION • How? • Destination country for a significant men, women, and children. • Where? • They are from Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma, Bangladesh, India. • Where? • They are voluntarily migrate to work in factories, construction and agricultural sectors.
SOLUTION • 3P by The Government of Malaysia. • Prosecution of Trafficking offenders • Protection of victims of human trafficking • Prevention of trafficking persons
Conclusion • It is not only Government job to prevent this issues. • It should be all among us take responsibility to cure this problems together: • Raising awareness amongst potential victims, particularly in states where human traffickers are active. • Raising awareness amongst police, social welfare workers and immigration officers to quip them to deal appropriately with the problem.
