A picture book from the Spectacular nature scenery in the Conguillío National Park by Anders Busse Nielsen – a happy participant.
23 persons from all parts of the world on adventure in Conguillío national park’s spectacular mixture of virgin forest with Araucaria and Nothofagus climbing up the foot of the brutal Volcanos and mountain ridges.
Chile harbours 2050 Volcanos, and an hour before arrival the cone of the Liaima Volcano dominated the horizon with its 3125 masl.
The volcanoLiaimacloseup. It is active an the meantime span between eruptions is eightyears. The last eruption was in 2008
A split second, where volcano and cloud merge to what could look like an eruption
SOme trees are more lucky than otheres when the lava flow race down the slopes
Each colour on the map indicates lave from different eruptions.
The lave blocks rivers and forest is flooded and turned into lakes with the most clear water one can think of
Nothofagus species dominates the forest in the valleys while Araucaria enters and dominate further up the slopes
UThe understory is dominated by the Chilian bamboo, which brings the mind to Asia. Ben from Sounth Africa fights his way through the Bamboo.
The volcano is always present when a ‘window’ opens in the forest
To be at the right spot at the right time is when a Condor glides over the sky
Standing in 27 celcius while glancing at mountains covered by snow is nearly ’unreal’
On sites where one would think nothing can grow, the Araucaria demonstrate why it is one of the feed survivors from the dinussaurs time
One understands why Araucaria is refeered to as the fear of the monkeys. Sharply pointed needels directly on the branches
The forest floor is covered by the sharp leaf-like needles, that reminds of needle-like leaves
Anyhow, one has to try climbing them. The shape and contours bark reminds of the skin of a crocodile.

After some fantastic days in Conguillío National Park the mini busses headed back to Concepcion.
