What is Android? • Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. • This beta version of the Android SDK provides the tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications on the Android platform using the Java programming language. • A Linux-based combination of nuts-and-bolts software with applications and a user interface designed to run mobile phones.
Android Features • Application Framework- enabling reuse and replacement of components. • Optimized graphics- 2D graphics library and 3D graphics. • Bluetooth, 3G, WiFi • Camera, GPS, accelerometer
Android Security • Android relies on Linux version 2.6 for core system services such as security, memory management, process management, network stack, and driver model. • Most security between applications and the system is enforced at the process level through standard Linux facilities, such as user and group IDs that are assigned to applications.
