medFLEx – eAssessment for the Federal Licensing Examination in Human Medicine Background/Motivation • Introduction of computer-based assessment (CBA) into the Federal Licensing Examination (Human Medicine) in the context of an overall redesign of the nation-wide exam (mandated by BAG) • Challenging but interesting field for eAssessment: • high-stakes (federal licensing of physicians) • high-complexity (various question formats, use of video, sounds, images) • large-scale (650 candidates in multiple exams each year) • nation-wide (local testing at all medical faculties: BA, BE, GE, LA, ZH)
medFLEx – eAssessment for the Federal Licensing Examination in Human Medicine SIOUX: Ideal Foundation • Legal Security • federal licensing examination is held to the highest standards, legal complaints are not rare • SIOUX provides a digital signing mechanism (state-of-the-art) • Reliability • infrastructure at different sites complicates tight control of network and systems, but exams must not be interrupted • SIOUX allows continued operation in case of failures • Modularity • SIOUX can be customized and interfaced with external modules for the authoring and evaluation of exams • Maturity • SIOUX is in productive use for large-scale summative exams
