  2. In this activity you will: • Learn about the process of photosynthesis • Write a paragraph describing how plants use photosynthesis to live and grow

  3. Plants need energy to grow • Plants need energy to grow. • Plants get energy from the sun. • Plants use energy to carry on the process of photosynthesis.

  4. Chlorophyll is needed for photosynthesis • Chlorophyll is a green material in plants that traps light energy. • Chlorophyll is located in long, green cells. • Plants get their green color from chlorophyll. • Chlorophyll is needed for photosynthesis.

  5. Plants need air for photosynthesis • Plants have tiny holes in the bottom of each leaf. • The tiny holes let air go in and out of the leaf. • Plants use a gas in the air called carbon dioxide. • Plants release oxygen back into the air.

  6. Plants need water for photosynthesis • Plants get water from the soil. • Roots bring water from the soil to the plant. • Veins in each leaf carry water throughout the plant. • Water is needed for the cells of the plant to carry on photosynthesis.

  7. Plants need sunlight for photosynthesis • Cells in the plant trap light energy from the sun. • Light energy helps change carbon dioxide and water to a simple sugar in plants. • The plant uses the simple sugars to help it grow.

  8. Photosynthesis helps plants live and grow! • Photosynthesis is the process by which plants trap the sun’s energy . • Plants use the sun’s energy to change carbon dioxide and water into sugar.
