Project Groups Reminder to keep working on group formations Lab 6 will be 1st Team project If you do not have a group soon, I will assign groups at that lab
Domain Name System • DNS is used for name resolutions • Converts domain names into IP addresses • DNS server on Linux is "bind“ • bind9 is the latest version • Purpose of the lab is to understand how DNS works by implementing your own subzone
Domain Name System • Lab domain is hades.lab • Glue Record • The lab server has a glue record for your sub domain • Your subdomain must match the glue record • Check Web site if you are not sure what your subdomain IP is
Domain Name System • Remember: Both IP address and subzone name must match the lab server's glue record • Make sure the subzone file is correct • The email address is separated by dots, not an @ • Increment serial number each time you change the zone file • Use the Standard notation for the serial!
Troubleshooting • Use logs to find errors - CHECK SERIAL NUMBER • Use dig to test • Make sure you pay attention to the status and the ANSWER SECTION
DNSSEC • Write down key file names - Pay attention to the instructions • If you make changes to the zone file, you must resign the zone for DNSSEC to work properly • Again: Check the log file to verify proper zone serial number and if DNSSEC is working
