Research on Affects of Water Discharge of Nearby Spring by Tunnels Construction in Mountains Master’s Name:Yingting Shen Tutor:Professor Wenqi Ding November 8th 2008
Engineering Example 1: • In the process of Zhongliang Mountain tunnel construction at Xiangyu Railway in China, a large amount of groundwater flooded out of the heading, then 48 of 130 nearby wells in surface were dried up, and well water of the rest ones were reduced a great lot. This seriously disturbed local residents’ normal life.
Engineering Example 2: • Construction of main tunnels in North Apennine Mountains of Italy, to varying degrees, all lowered the groundwater level and dried up nearby wells and springs which are the main sources of local inhabitants’ living water use.
