  2. Number Line- is a line where numbers are placed in increasing order Each point on a number line corresponds to a number.

  3. Easy Number Lines Some number lines have all the tick marks already labeled, so it is easy to know the value of any point. A is 2 B is 6 A B

  4. Medium Number Lines Some number lines may have every tick mark labeled, but they may not count by 1s. D is 14 C is 8 C D

  5. Harder Number Lines When all the tick marks aren’t labeled, we need to figure out what we are counting by. J is 5 S is 20 J S 25 15 5 Half-way between 0 and 10 is 5. I am counting by 5s.

  6. Practice Find the value of point Q and point R R Q Hint: I know between 15 and 18 is 3. I must be counting by 3.

  7. Thermometers Thermometer- an instrument for measuring temperature Thermometers might be in degrees Farhenheit or degrees Celsius or sometimes a thermometer might show both

  9. Reading a thermometers is like reading a number line Thermometers almost always count by 1s, 2s, 5s, or 10s. This thermometer counts by 10s. It is 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

  10. Let’s Practice This thermometer counts by 1s. It is 28 degrees Celsius.
