  1. Use Number Lines to Round DecimalsAlignment Lesson Day 26

  2. How can you use a number line to round 14.235 to the nearest tenth? • Think about what the possible answer will be since we need to round to the nearest tenth. • Which two tenths would 14.235 fall between on a number line? • The answer will be either 14.2 or 14.3. • Create a number line like the one below. 14.3 14.2

  3. 14.23 14.25 14.21 14.27 14.29 14.24 14.28 14.2 14.22 14.26 14.3 • Determine where 14.235 will fall on the number line. • The spaces on the number line each represent one hundredth. • 0.035 is between 0.03(0) and 0.04(0) so I place the  halfway between the line for 0.03(0) and 0.04(0). • Look at the number line and where you’ve placed the number to determine which number it is closer to. • 14.235 is closer to 14.2 so when rounded to the nearest tenth it is 14.2.

  4. BINGO - Round 2 • Find Day 26 “Rounding Decimals Bingo Card” • Place the following numbers on your bingo card in any order you’d like.

  5. How to Play • I will call the numbers and the rounding place. • Once the card has been read, you should draw a number line and show where the number would be placed to determine the rounded answer. • We will stop to discuss & prove the rounded answer using your number lines and you can cover the number if they included it on their Bingo Card.
