  2. What Are Our Aims? • To make the community more accessible • To build friendships and communities • Better access to further education • Support people to get paid work • More direct payments • Person-centred planning • Support staff with new ideas and ways of working

What is happening?Making The Community Accessible • A new personal care changing area has been created at Acton College • Linked with Siobhan Gibbons(LBE Disability Access Officer) to have input with Building & Planning Department • Identified and using existing accessible facilities across the Borough e.g. Gurnell, ARC, Colleges, shops etc

  4. What is happening?Building Communities and Friendships • More people have jobs, access mainstream colleges and use leisure centres (e.g. Gurnell, Southall, Brentford, Acton) • Person-centred planning is helping people to keep in touch with their friends • Half of all new staff are from BME communities

  5. What is happening?Talking to people and their carers. Celebration Days at Carlton and Stirling Road • Noreen talked about people on the SWAT project getting work experience • Chris talked about progress with the modernisation plan • Francis Harrington told us that the council is reviewing the use of all it’s buildings • We have now set up a reference group of carers across all day services

  6. Council’s Property Review • Will create three community hubs in Acton, Greenford and Southall • Locate and build a new 50m swimming pool in Acton by 2010 • The Stirling Road Day Centre will be part of this overall plan • The plan is going to Ealing cabinet in September

  7. What is happening? Adult Education • More people are attending college (e.g. 40 peopleincluding 8 peoplewith high support needs at Acton College) • New courses e.g. Recruitment, Introduction to Work and Essential Lifestyle Planning • We provide training for college lecturers in disability awareness • Share the good ideas from across London in the Day Services Network

  8. What is happening? Staff • Community Building training provided to all day care staff • More staff (in local authority and independent sector) trained in Essential Lifestyle Planning • Extra Funding from LDDF for staff to support PCP’s • PCP co-ordinator employed

  9. What is happening? Transport • 3 travel buddies matched • 30 more people registered with Taxi Card • 7 more people are receiving travel training • There will be a new transport contract by January next year

  10. What is happening? Direct Payments • 43 people using Direct Payments • Direct Payments training workshops have been run throughout the year • Direct Payments Clinics are happening

  11. What is happening? Person Centred Planning • 70+ people have active plans • People have been supported to have multi media profiling input with their plans • Lee Hubbard is the PCP Co-ordinator working in Ealing who provides training, support and advice

  12. What can we do better? • Colleges to be more accessible for people with high support needs • Get more commitment from within communities • Find more people who want to be facilitators for Person Centred Planning • Find more travel buddies

  13. What’s going well? • Multi Media Profiling • More people are doing things in the community • More people are getting work experience • We are using more community transport • More Direct Payments are used • More people are going to college • College Courses are more appropriate
