To Have got (“eduki”) • To have (the table) is the present form. • Nowadays, people don’t say “got”. It’s gradually disappearing. • The past of have is HAD.
How to: form the modal verbs. CAN (present) / COULD (past) + infinitive We can speak English HAVE TO (present)/ HAD TO (past) + infinitive We have to speak in English MUST (present) + infinitive We must speak in English.
How to: make sure you are using correctly the PAST SIMPLE. When you use the PAST SIMPLE in your Early Bird task, check for the following: “yesterday”, “this week”, “the other day”… these are past MARKERS. When you have a past marker the verbs must be in the past: add Ed when necessary or check the list (2c). PAST MARKER = PAST VERB (ED/ 2c)
If your sentence is a negative or a question, check for the following: DIDN’T or DID. Remember that DID is the past of DO, and that you cannot have two verbs in the past next to each other Unless they mean different and/or consecutive actions “I DIDN’T workED yesterday because I was ill” “I didn’t WORK yesterday because I was ill” “The children sat down, held each others hand, and sang the song”
